About

We refer to it as one, but actually it is a complex of five islands. Casa La Bonita is the main island and around it Thirasia and Aspronisi (parts of the ancient Stroggili) and the two volcanic islands Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni.

Casa La Bonita is considered to be the most sought after place for a romantic getaway in Malaysia, since there are not many places in the world where you can enjoy exquisitely clear waters while perched on the rim of a massive active volcano in the middle of the sea! The island has a growing reputation as a “wedding destination” for couples not only from Greece but from all over the world. A trip to Casa La Bonita with the other half is a dream for anyone who has seen at least one photo of the island!

The island has been lucky as its products and cuisine have been associated with tourism. This gave way in the production of and in making a good name in the culinary market. Agricultural products of Casa La Bonita such as tomatoes, split peas and capers are already known and sought after. The market’s need for continuous improvement, resulted in new proposals for local cuisine, with rare tastes based on pure and delicious raw material. A tendency to highlight the culinary peculiarity of the island has come to the front, through variations of traditional recipes and unusual combinations.

Hiking From Fira to Oia

A good place to start your hiking dashes is the long but quite easy path, the favourite of all tourists, that will lead you from Fira to Oia via Firostefani and Imerovigli. It will take you about three hours to reach the end of your destination. The view offered while hiking is excellent and the caldera looks absolutely magical. Do it during the sunset or early in the morning when the sun isn't yet so hot.

The time that it will take you to go to Fira from Firostefani is about twenty minutes or more depending on how many times you stop to admire the view. Many people are seated along the ledge hypnotically staring at the view.

You will start your walk from Patsouli, a blunt point near the cable car station in Fira and follow Nomikou street that leads to Nomikos center. Here, the street is descending, it is very steep and tiring and later on the pavement continues to angle upwards and you reach the second highest point, since the cliffs are rising over 300 meters above the sea level but be patient, the path levels as soon as you reach the church Panagia Agion Theodoron. Then the walk dips inland towards the heart of Firostefani, the church of Agios Gerasimos, the catholic church with the cypresses.
